Kobe on, Odom off

I feel like we're on a merry-go-round. Kobe gets on, Lamar Odom gets off. But Kobe Bryant seems to be the man once again, considering he's the only reason the Los Angeles Lakers didn't end up totally losing a big fourth quarter lead on Tuesday night. 23 points and a last-minute triumphant save... who needs Odom?

(We do. Get well soon!)

Winner's circle, Bryant or not

From the San Diego Union-Tribune:

"Luke Walton scored a career-high 25 points and Lamar Odom had 15 rebounds for the Pacific Division-leading Lakers, who muddled through without their injured eight-time All-Star and beat the Atlanta Hawks 106-95 on Friday night."

Looks like we don't need Kobe Bryant to win, at least. How's that to make you proud to be a Los Angeles Lakers ticket holder? (Kobe Bryant, come back soon anyway!)

Welcome back again!

I said last time I was glad to have Lamar Odom and Kobe Bryant back; apparently I wasn't kidding! With 21 points from Lamar Odom and 19 from Kobe Bryant in addition to 10 assists on Sunday night against the New Jersey Nets (99-93!), the Los Angeles Lakers, are looking good!

Lakers Hold Off Seattle

First, Kobe, glad to have you back! Second, Larry Odom, glad to have you at the free throw line--five of 'em in the last 36 seconds; see, kids, that's why the coach sez to practice.

Still, Lakers, you don't have to make things quite as dramatic as this one was. We were up by 20 at one point and we let Seattle tie things up in the second half. More fun for the people who buy the tickets, I know, but there are some teams the Lakers need to womp, not toy with.

Phoenix Suns Here for Halloween

Opening games for the 2006-07 NBA regular season happen in Miami and L.A. on Halloween. The team ringing the Lakers' doorbell will be the Phoenix Suns. Hey, how scary can that be when we have Kobe and the guys to answer the door? I predict tricks for them and treats for Lakers fans.

Hell, Michigan...

...must be frozen over, because the residents of that city finally have a team to cheer for in the World Series.

Ah well, good luck to you Tigers. You've waited a long time for this.

The Los Angeles WHO????

The other day I heard a co-ed group of friends talking about basketball the other day. Some of the girls and even one guy said they had no interest in basketball and didn’t know enough about it or any of the teams to be interested. Then someone brought up the Lakers, and to that all but one girl knew who the team was, even the ones who had already said they knew nothing of the sport or teams who play it. Poor girls friends laughed at her! So I got to thinking, if you knew NOTHING about the sport of Basketball, would you still know who the Lakers were? I think you would! Who couldn’t know who the Los Angeles Lakers are? Remember that big guy who used to be on the team and always in the spot light? Yeah the one who TRIED to make it as a rapper too? Yeah him! That would be Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal)! And although Shaq is no longer on the team we all know that’s how he will always be remembered and most known for. Then if you are still saying the Los Angeles WHO???? What about the guy that big ol’ Shaq shared, or even sometimes fought for, the spotlight with? I’ll give you a hint, he also became famous awhile back for being an adulterer, giving his wife the biggest dang apology, er, ring, ever, to make things better….none other than Kobe Bryant. You recognize that name don’t you! And even if you know nothing about the game, you could always buy a ticket to the game just to see all the celebraties who attend, or the hot Laker Girls gyrating their way right into our hearts. See I told you you’d know who the Lakers are!

Jackson to undergo surgery

Phil Jackson will be having hip-replacement surgery tomorrow – I’m sure he will be in all of our thoughts as he recovers. He is expected to be released from the hospital on Wednesday, and it is not clear right now when he will be able to return to his head coaching duties. It is Jackson’s seventh season as head coach, and he has had a 68% win record with the Lakers, easily the best percentage of any coach in NBA history.

No man is an island but he could be a beach ball.

Some people may be tempted to support Kobe Bryant with a wholly youthful team. Although as a Los Angeles Lakers fan my favorite kind of Basketball to watch is one of speed, driving to the hoop and fast passing, judging from the results of the NBA finals this year it may be worth thinking about a tall, solid and experienced player that can hold Bryant’s talent and the rookie crop together in such tense situations.

If we can change, where do we start?

The Los Angeles Lakers season ended in Phoenix. I couldn’t even bring myself to write during the playoffs because I was so nervous I would jinx my team or something. I wrote once and it seemed to have a negative effect so I stopped. It’s not like I think I am responsible for my team losing, but sometimes things just seem connected.

Kobe Bryant led the league in scoring and has now been named to the All-NBA First Team. Hopefully we can acquire some hot young talent in the draft to compliment our Kobe driven offense. What changes do you see in our future?

Lakers Surprise Even Me

The Los Angeles Lakers are going to try to go 3 and 1 this afternoon against the Phoenix Suns. It is no secret that they have dominated the Suns thus far and things are looking good for the Lakers to win this series. I have to admit I was skeptical at first and didn’t see the Lakers really standing up against the best teams in the league, but they have proven themselves worthy of winning this series and possibly advancing further in the playoffs than I ever imagined.

Bryant Can’t be Stopped

Kobe Bryant scored over 40 points for the third game in a row in the Los Angeles Lakers win over the Houston Rockets Sunday. The score was a whopping 104-88 and the Rockets never stood a chance. Things are looking good and I am seeing post season play in our future. What do you think?

Who are those other guys?

I have been a Los Angeles Lakers fan for years. What I see happening to this team pains me greatly. Yes, we are winning. Some would say Kobe Bryant carries this team, but despite our record we are not playing like a winning team. If you look at the numbers, Kobe has been the top scorer in almost every game. Who is our second best player? Do we have one?

What is tearing the Lakers apart?

The Los Angeles Lakers are floundering and it seems that the efforts of Kobe Bryant are not going to be enough to pull this team out of their slump. We’ve maintained a winning record but this team has no chemistry left. I don’t know if it’s that the players don’t want to play with Kobe or if he won’t let them. Something needs to happen for this team to start playing as a cohesive unit.
