One Fan's Opinion

- excerpt from Lakers true fan Vaughn R Perkins

I've taken all that I can take as it relates to people dumping that has happened to the Lakers,on the shoulders of Kobe.I've heard people say how selfish he is and isn't a team player and that's pure crap and you're not very knowledgably when it comes to judging the game of basketball.Maybe if he had a better supporting cast,he would be able to show his true and full value. The Lakers haven't had a good supporting cast since the last championship they won. When you have a supporting cast the likes of Harper,Horry,Shaw,Fisher and Fox,guys you have confidence in to deliver the goods when you give them the ball.Ask MJ when he first started, how difficult it is to play on a team full of guys that you can't count on and you have to try and take things into your own hands.
To say that Kobe is selfish is pure idiotic because a player doesn't finish in the top 15-20 in league assists and from a shooting guard position if he's selfish.I distintly remember games where the game was on the line and rather Kobe take the last shot himself,he passed it to the open guy who was right at the hoop and the guy passes back out to a double teamed Kobe rather than take the open shoot and the Lakers lost a game they could have won.How can you have confidence in your team mates when they don't deliver when you set them up to do so.
When someone says that the Lakers won't be winners for a decade or so because of Kobe, that tells me that that individual has no clue nor knowledge about what it takes to develop a winning team. All Chanpionship teams, regardless of the era, have always had a good supporting cast to go around their star player and that's what the Lakers need to but around Kobe and then maybe he won't feel that he has to do everything and the Lakers will again be a winning team.

Kobe Bryant

Although the Lakers did not advance as we would have liked, we need to look at some of the highlights of the season and what was good about the team. Kobe Bryant has been for many years one of the most important assets to the Lakers.

Bryant was ranked second in points per game with a 27.6 average. During the 2002-2003 season, he topped this by making 30.0. He’s also ranked second in triple-doubles.

Originally, Bryant was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in 1996 straight out of High School. Bryant was traded to the Lakers in an agreement over Vlade Divac.
